@blackplatypus Good post,,,,yes I think you nailed it,,,,people don’t like to admit they don’t know maybe because they feel a failure for not knowing?
Then they think jabbing a finger at an ancent text is the answer,,,,lol,,,
@nothingUnrealExists I would hope you were. Unfortunately alot of christians spout off rediculous claims like that so it makes it hard to tell when somebody isn’t making things like that up on here.
@spikeman23 You DO know I was being facetious right?
@x86freak Lol you do realize things like that can be a hoax right?
@nothingUnrealExists You’re a moron then.
@patrickledford420 you don’t understand that we are not looking for an answer. We are not insecure about the world around us and enjoy it rather than search for answers for every little thing. We accept and enjoy life, while you spend yours trying to define minute things that are completely irrelevant to anyone’s existence except for the mere need to gloat about your knowledge and bash our own. So you tell me…who’s life is better lived?
@mAdmAn948
Belief in god does not explain far more than scientific theories.
It’s a non-answer. It has zero explanatory power and is used as a stop-gap to prevent investigation.
People will prefer this because they consider “I don’t know” such an uncomfortable answer and would rather make shit up than admit that it’s unknown. The correct, honest thing to do is to admit you don’t know because “I don’t know” leads to “lets find out”
You stop looking when you have an answer. even if it’s stupid
@HConstantine Ah. You are using a different definition of “mystical” then. It’s the association with the “exterior source” that I refer to. There is no cathedral on earth as moving, no sermon or stained glass as beautiful, as the simple pleasure of the creaking pines and a nice sandwich and a root bear in the black hills of South Dakota. It leaves you feeling connected to something more eternal that the puny God of the bible. But I wouldn’t call it mystical or religious. Just semantics.
@nothingUnrealExists
You do realize that there are only two kinds of skeptics, those who have studied the matter and realize that the traditional practice of mysticism leads to profound personal psychological results (easily misinterpreted as connected to an exterior source such as divinity because of the mystics’ implication in religious tradition), and ignorant fools?
@HConstantine You do realize there are only too types of mystics. Charlatans and fools — criminals and mentally ill).
@blackplatypus What’s REALLY scary is how many people DO believe just because it gives the warm fuzzies, and they KNOW that is stupid and will deny it, and when you ask them for their rational—they make up all sorts of twisted nonsense–and when that doesn’t convince you they always come back to the fuzzies.
It’s like the Muslims now who say “we are not all terrorists, we are the religion of peace”. “Maybe” I say. but a peaceful delusion is still a delusion.
@blackplatypus it goes a lot deeper than that. it’s not about finding comfort, or to “feel all warm and fuzzy.” it’s to explain what science can’t, because, at this moment, the belief in God can explain far more than scientific theories can. and even top scientists who come up with those theories tend to believe in some form of higher being who created order in this universe, because it’s the only explanation for it all. you tell us to back our information up when you should look into your own.
@nothingUnrealExists
I’ve often thought that Paul’s statements about his relationship with god is at such variance with what is reported by other mystics that he might have had an actual mental illness.
@Otokogoroshi The shaky guy on the chair at the bus stop the other day said no, HE has the spirit of Jesus in HIM. And I believe him, because he said hippies are to blame for the financial collapse.
@HConstantine Yes well, fortunately we not have anti psychotic medications for people like that.
@darrenc182 “He’s devoted his life to spreading my word. Only my words he ran out of years ago”. George Burns as God, “Oh God”
Yes… it’s quite clear that you believe it because it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. but that’s not a rational reason to believe something.
Sure it would be nice if I believed tomorrow I’d wake up in a mansion on a big pile of money that belongs to me but whether or not something would be nice has nothing to do with truth.
Also, I’m appalled so many people find comfort in a system where people are tortured forever for not guessing correctly.
i think we should not have to have an atheist show or have to refute many many times that every last holy book on the planet is fucking wrong and immoral comeon god beleives nonbeleif is the worst crime ever what the fuck anyone who thinks that is a stupid ignorant assholes no exceptions it is wrong and immoral
i prefer george smith’s wager… he wrote ATHEISM: THE CASE AGAINST GOD
man bless them
@johnycannuk I’m sure at age 12 you were an intellectual super-genius who could question parents’ authority and credibility of audio-recordings that sounded so real.
@CraftyCameron Yes, coping with reality is hard. For the sake of mental stability some people need to create a myth in the head.
What’s the point ?! Well you could contribute to the world, help your fellow man, be remembered for your good deeds.
On the other hand your “what’s the point” could refer to yourself aka “what’s in it for me?” In that case desire to go to Heathen is a selfish wish and I’m not sure Bible advocates that.
Pity they are fake and you are a gullible fool…
One thing I find amazing about that stupid book (The Bible) is that they can be so incredibly detailed on the slavery laws described in this video, but not on real important components like how god created life. If that is not a perfect indication that the bible is not gods word but just a bunch of stupid crap made up by people then I don’t know what is!!!
