The Bible for beginners (Part 1)
About 1/3rd of the people on this planet call themselves Christians, although peculiarly only about 1 in 10 have ever read the Bible. Personally I think this number is hopelessly optimistic with maybe only 1in 100 to 1000 having ever really read the Bible. Yup so about 90 % of Christians believe in something they’ve never read about. In order to partially remedy this, I’m starting a new series called ‘The Bible for Beginners’ where I will read highlights from the Bible to see if Christians actually subscribe to the Holy book they have never read, or not.

You also don’t know the flood story, and you don’t know what the ark was — size of a Liberty-class ship in WWII. Made of cypress wood, which doesn’t rot. Which Noah took DOWN the mountain on all those animals, since he’d need that wood for housing.

Bible doesn’t tell you how old, but it does say that a) God created everything, and then b) there was a huge civil war among the angels, so c) our quadrant of the universe got its lights put out (angels’ bodies are made of light), so d) God RESTORED the earth (very funny story) in six days (dawdling to do it).
If you microwave a potato or bake it, and don’t know the difference, you could mistake one for the other. My guess is a VERY OLD universe.

First as far as we know the universe is existence. It can’t be said to come into existence.
Most cosmological theories hold the bigbang as the begining of time. This makes saying “before the universe” meaningless, because then it would be the same as saying “before time”.
And theories that don’t treat the big bang as the begining give an answer that isn’t god.

i myself have not read all the bible, but if i was starting from scratch, i could not get past the first few pages because we all (rational thinkers who are at least moderately educated) know that the earth and the heavens and all that is on the earth was not created in 6 days. if that part is not to be taken litterally, then which parts do we take and which do we throw out.
